Carbs for Breakfast? You Bet!

Need a change from your typical a.m. steel cut oats?  Barley is a best keep secret when it comes to losing weight, feeling full, and increasing your energy.  If you want to be successful at weight loss - especially as you age - the best thing to do is eat fiber-rich foods and load them up with antioxidants.  This week's recipe of the week delivers!  Try this Warm Barley Cereal with Dried Cherries and start your morning off singing the song. "I got the power!" Here are some substitutions and variations to keep you honest and:

  • Pinch of Stevia instead of sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon of Kosher salt
  • 1/4 of dried fruit (less is more) such as raisins, cranberries or apricots

Power Hour Shake for Busy Moms

I'm always on the run, especially during the school week.  It can be tough to eat something healthy but here's a tip when you don't have time to eat - drink your breakfast!  So the next time you're on the go, try my morning power shake; it travels well and taste great! Power Hour Shake

3/4 cup of Almond milk

1/4 cup of organic strawberries

2 Tbsp of plain Greek yogurt

1 scoop of whey protein powder

1 Tbsp ground flaxseed (optional)

Pinch of Stevia

Ice cubes

Place contents in blender and mix thoroughly.  Pour into a shaker bottle and you're all set.  Enjoy!
